File Attachment

What is a File Attachment?

A file attachment in a PDF is a file embedded in the document, often as a File Attachment annotation. These annotations let you attach various file types (for example PDFs, images, or documents) to a specific location in the PDF, viewable and accessible through a clickable icon.

Defined in PDF 2.0 (ISO 32000-2) and described in Application Note 002: Associated Files, file attachments improve document interactivity by letting you share supplementary content, such as references or data, in a compact, organized format.
